HYBRID VIRTUAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER CLASS


HYBRID: on-line and in- person sessions


*The Emergency Medical Responder course prepares the EMR student to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages who may suffer from a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, the roles and responsibilities of EMRs and first responders, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, and special considerations for working in the prehospital setting.


This hybrid course is designed for potential EMR students needing flexibility to work around school, work, or family commitments. Examples of ideal participants are Firefighters, Police Officers, Teachers, Corrections Officers, Park Rangers, parents of young children, and college students considering a career in health care who will find this schedule convenient to their schedules. It requires commitment, motivation, and self-discipline to keep up with weekly assignment deadlines, and a willingness to ask for support from friends and family to practice skills outside of classroom time.

Upon completion of coursework, achieving a passing test score and demonstration of skills competency, students will be eligible to apply for Louisiana licensure as an Emergency Medical Responder and /or test for National Registry EMR Certification.

Licensed EMRs can find employment in industrial settings, fire departments, as security officers, as ambulance service employees, and as volunteers in their community.

This EMR class is a solid introduction to the EMS profession and graduates can continue their education to become EMTS, Paramedics, Community Paramedics, Flight Paramedics, Patient Care Technicians, and other high demand occupations with opportunity in all areas of the US.

DETAILS: 12-week course, self -directed, self-paced online study and quizzes including Virtual Instructor led class 3 hours per week, 8-hour Live Skills Bootcamps” (3 weekend days) *4-hour BLS for Healthcare Providers Course and 2- year certification card.

Cost: $800

includes all textbooks, lab materials and stocked first responder kit for home practice.

8 registered/ deposit paid students are required to begin this course. Limited to 12 students

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN CLASS

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 - 8:30pm

Two weekend days per month


Learn the lifesaving skills and knowledge necessary to become a Nationally Registered, Louisiana- licensed Emergency Medical Technician!

Successful completion of the course earns the graduate the right to sit for the cognitive and psychomotor exams necessary for licensure as a Nationally Registered EMT. Class also includes certification in AHA BLS-CPR for Health Care Providers.

At approximately the midpoint of the class, students may test for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder allowing them to apply for state licensure and begin working in the exciting and rewarding healthcare field.

Students will also have clinical ride time on a working 911 ambulance, and observation time at local hospital Emergency Departments, fire departments and a medical helicopter base.

Tuition: $1600.00 per student

Requirements:

*Laptop computer or tablet. A smart phone is not sufficient.

*Reliable internet access

* Available study time minimally 8-10 hours a week in addition to scheduled class time.

Cost of class Includes:

*Tuition, paperback textbooks, and e-books, AHA BLS CPR card, learning management system access, on-line clinical planning and documentation system, study apps, lab fees, first responder equipment kit, class polo, PPE.

Not included:

Student insurance

State BOEMS approved background check

Basic physical suitability exam /vaccinations (or records)

National Registry Exam

Louisiana BEMS psychomotor exam for National Registry

DEPOSIT to hold seat: $100 Administrative fee (included in tuition)

Payment plans available, however initial payment of $500 is required first day of class. Payment in full by mid-term.

All payments non- refundable unless course is cancelled.

EMR to EMT bridge available to students who meet MTS standard at approximately half cost of full class depending on materials cost*
